International Women´s Day will be celebrated throughout the world on March 8^th.  It´s a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This day will also draw attention for accelerating gender equality. The first International Women’s Day was observed March 8^th in, 1914. Why is this still observed? This is because of women are still not getting equal pay. This can be related to racism and in general women have a fear of asking to be paid what you´re worth. Moreover, there are lower proportions of women to men for example in government positions, gender violence and women are promoted less often than men.

There are some symbols which are used to embrace National Women´s Day. The color purple is internationally recognized to symbolize women. This color is associated with justice, power dignity and ambition. The combination of purple, green and white is also often used as symbol. Even more, the color green represents hope and white symbolizes purity. Every country has its own special tradition for celebrating International Women’s Day. For example in the United States, the whole month is Women´s History Month. In Italy it´s celebrated by giving yellow Mimosa blossom flowers.  There are also a lot of protest on streets, for instance in Spain.

The theme changes every year. ´Each for equal´ is the theme of 2020. The campaign theme is drawn from a notion of ‘Collective Individualism.’ We are all parts of a whole.
